Hashtag cults are groups that signal membership by using a hashtag or keyword. This allows the group to operate on many different sites and makes them difficult to pin point. They use the hashtag model to spread propaganda on a variety of social media sites without having a central account. This is usually because their ideas are offensive or their methods of communicating are abusive and border on website policy violations.
